Group Rules

These rules apply everywhere WUT IT meets: this site, Discord, Slack, Facebook, direct messages between members, and every meetup.

The short version

  1. Be respectful. No harassment, discrimination or personal attacks.
  2. Be patient with beginners. Everyone started somewhere.

  4. No cold DMs: no sales pitches, recruiting or romantic messages.
  5. Share your projects, but don't sell. Vendors and sponsors, contact an admin.
  6. Keep it legal. No piracy, cracked software or unauthorized hacking help.
  7. Protect privacy. No doxxing. Remove passwords, IPs and employer secrets before posting.
  8. No spam, scams, crypto or MLM.

Code of conduct

Treat everyone here the way you'd want to be treated by a coworker you respect.

Expected

Not allowed

Security talk is welcome. Questions about offense, CTFs, pentesting and tools are fine when the context is legal and authorized.

Posting rules

Job posts: local only

A job may be posted if it is on-site or hybrid in Walla Walla, Umatilla, Benton or Franklin County. Fully remote jobs are not allowed, even from local companies. Post jobs only in the jobs channel, one post per role, and include:

TitleNetwork Administrator
EmployerThe actual company name, not just "confidential client"
LocationKennewick, on-site / hybrid 3 days
Pay range$70,000–$85,000/year
How to applyA link or a contact
Your connectionHiring manager, employee, recruiter or "saw it posted"

Posts missing a field get removed, and you can post again once it's fixed. Washington law already requires a pay range for most employers. Recruiters are welcome under the same rules, but never cold-DM members about roles.

Looking for work

Members can post that they're job hunting, with a short summary and a resume link, in the looking-for-work channel. Once a month per person.

Self-promotion and vendors

Sharing your own project, blog, talk or home lab is encouraged in show-and-tell. Selling is not: no sales pitches, product demos or "book a call" posts. A vendor who wants to sponsor or present at a meetup should contact an admin.

Asking for help

Post in the help channel and say what you tried, what you expected and what happened. Remove passwords, IP addresses, customer names and anything from your employer that isn't public.

General

Meetups

Meetups are online on Discord for now, with in-person meetups to follow. They're free and open to members aged 18 and over, and the code of conduct applies the whole time.

If someone is in danger, call 911 first.

Reporting and enforcement

If something breaks these rules, tell an admin privately. You don't need proof, and you won't get in trouble for a report made in good faith.

Reports are kept private. We'll respond within 48 hours and tell you what we did, without sharing details about the other person. Admins pick the step that fits:

  1. Reminder: a quiet note, usually for honest mistakes like a post in the wrong channel.
  2. Warning: a private warning, and the post is removed.
  3. Timeout: muted or blocked from posting for 1 to 7 days.
  4. Ban: removed from every WUT IT space and meetup.

Harassment, threats, doxxing, sexual misconduct and scams lead to an immediate ban. Spam accounts are banned on sight. To appeal, email conduct@wutit.net within 30 days.

Privacy

The signup form on wutit.net stores your email address, plus your name, area and role if you fill them in, and the date you signed up. That's all it collects.

What you post on Discord, Slack or Facebook is visible to other members and is also covered by those platforms' own privacy policies.
